Lipase blood test

A lipase blood test measures the amount of lipase, an enzyme that helps break down fats, in the blood. Lipase is produced by the pancreas and is important for proper digestion and absorption of fats. Elevated levels of lipase in the blood may indicate a problem with the pancreas, such as pancreatitis, or with the digestive system. A lipase blood test is often ordered along with other tests, such as amylase and liver function tests, to help diagnose and monitor conditions affecting the pancreas and digestive system. The test is typically done by drawing a small amount of blood from a vein in the arm
